Delanie had a good idea to treat ourselves and go to a salon to get our nails done. We made an appointment earlier this week and we got to the local beauty shop at 11:00 a.m. Priscilla decided to get acrylic nails...boy do they do this process differently. It took TWO hours to complete. For those of you who are familiar with nails in the U.S., it usually takes them 20-25 minutes to put on a set. Delanie learned a lot about how they complete cosmetology school in Nicaragua so that was interesting. Then it was her turn to get her nails filled in. Again, for those of you who know, this should only take about 15 minutes. We were there for about another hour. It tested our patience but we finally left at around 2:00. This adventure made us realize how different the little things are when you are in a country far away from home. It was wild. Needless to say we will not be returning to get our nails done.
After this, we walked to our local grocery store. After the usual stares from everyone we finally got our grocery shopping for the week done, which felt productive. Even the grocery store, which is very Americanized, is very different from your average Jewel or Dominicks. We went home feeling as if we had worked hard all day, and we didn't even do any missions!...we were pooped (aka boom boom powed!).
Today was a day that made the feeling sink in more and more that we are not at home. This trip is such an amazing adventure and it's crazy to see that even the small things are so far from the norm for us. Regardless, it was nice to come home and swing on hammocks while reading and watching the palm trees in front of our house!
I am today what yesterday has made me; tomorrow I shall be changed by today's experiences.
xoxo
